Despite what somebody named Michele may have told you at your last high school reunion, Post-it® notes were actually developed by 3M scientists Spencer Silver and Art Fry almost by accident. While trying to develop something stronger, Dr. Spencer inadvertently created an adhesive that would stick lightly without bonding tightly. Fry’s involvement came outside of work when he was trying to create a better bookmark for his church choir hymnal. After Fry attended one of Silver’s seminars, the brainstorming began and office products would never be the same!

Post-it Notes in Pop Culture

More than 4,000 Post-it products later and numerous pop culture references later (Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, Berger breaking up with Carrie via a Post-it on “Sex and the City”, Meredith and Derek composing their wedding vows on Post-it Notes on “Grey’s Anatomy”), it’s hard to image that we ever used plain notepads without any adhesive on the backside.
